How to paint Deathwatch Terminators red_gobbo style?

Nie będę bić się w piersi za brak wpisów, za to dam Wam ten nowy. Trochę to wgląd w sposób mojej pracy oraz w moją drobną porażkę ;)

I will not repent myself for the lack of posts. Instead I will give you a new one. This will show a little backstage of how I work and will show you my little failure ;)

Przed malowaniem tych modeli ustawiłem sobie plan pracy oraz rozpisałem ile każdy krok powinien mi zająć. I tu właśnie poległem. Ale po kolei. Najpierw plan pracy. Każdy kwadracik to planowane pół godziny pracy. Czyli w zamierzeniu 6h. Plan ambitny, ale co to red_gobbo sobie nie poradzi?

Before I started painting those models I managed to put together a plan of work and how much each step should take me to finish. And here is where I failed. But let's start from the beginning. My work plan included:
Cleaning the models
Black basecoat and bases
Armour
Details base colors
Details wash
Highlights
Damage
Damaga highlights
White dots!
Each square represents 30 minutes of work. So it totaled to 6h. Ambitious plan, but red_gobbo will manage, right?

Już przygotowanie modeli zajęło więcej niż przewidywałem | Even the preparations took twice the time

Zużyty czas na zbroje, a one jeszcze nie gotowe  | Time for armor used already nad they are not finished

Budżet na detale przekroczony, a tu ciągle tyle do zrobienia | Time for painting details overused but still a lot to do

Powolny postęp po dwukrotnym czasie | Slow progress after twice the time

Czas przekroczony potrójnie i nie widać końca | Tripple the time and still no end

4h na detale i wciąż nie zrobione | 4h spent and still not finished

Na tym etapie wiedziałem już, że zawaliłem budżet. Przekroczyłem już 6h i do końca listy zostało jeszcze tyle do zrobienia. Na szczęście widziałem już że highlightów w większości nie będzie potrzeba, bo pracując uważnie z cienką warstwą farby same się zrobiły. Resztę sobie odpuściłem. Nie było też czasu na zniszczenia, widocznie ten poziom malowania na nie nie zasługuje.

On this stage, I knew that I failed. I have already spent 6h and there were so many steps left on the list. Fortunally I knew that not all the highlights will be needed. When I work carefully with thin layers the highlights revealed naturally. Others I simply omitted. There were also no time to add battle damage - it looks like they do not fit to this painting level.

W rezultacie na detale zeszło mi 5h. Ale widzę, że to nie wina zbyt powolnego malowania, tylko nieznajomości własnej metody malowania. Czyli złe planowanie. Od tej pory będę bardziej zwracał uwagę na to jakie czynności ile mi zajmują (szczególnie że sprawiłem sobie w końcu fajny stoper). Niby ogólnie wie się ile malujemy dane modele (bardziej w wieczorach niż godzinach), ale mierzenie postępu w minutach pozwala poznać swoją pracę bardziej i być może poprawi ogólną skuteczność malowania.

All in all, the details took me 5h to finish. But I can see that it was not due to slow painting, but the my poor knowledge of my own painting means. So it was the poor planning. From now on, I will focus more on getting to know how long certain stages are taking (especially now that I have such nice timer). Overall we all know how long we spent on painting (counting more in evenings not in minutes), but measurein the progress in minutes allow oneself to really know what one is doing and maybe it will improve the overall efficiency of painting.

Całość malowania zajęła mi 9h, więc i tak jestem bardzo zadowolony z ogólnej szybkości. Efekt możecie sprawdzić poniżej, jednakże powiem jeszcze tylko, że podstawki mogą być jeszcze przerobione dla ujednolicenia ich z podstawkami armii nabywcy. No tak, bo ten oddział jest do kupienia ;)

It took me 9h to finish the modeles and I am still happy with the spped of it. The results you can check below. One more thing: the bases are just temporary and will be changed to fit the Buyer's army. Oh yes, they are for sale ;)
